I’m Hanne, an entrepreneur, online store owner, and mother of twin girls at Decora House. Decora House is our family business – one that is part of our everyday life.

My husband has his own construction company, but he’s also involved in the day-to-day operations of Decora House. The same goes the other way around: over the years, I’ve been involved in his company’s affairs, sometimes with construction work, sometimes with websites, marketing, and other background tasks. For us, entrepreneurship is a joint effort where we help each other when needed.

That’s why Decora House isn’t just an online store for us. It’s part of our family’s daily life, work, and shared plans – we’re gradually building it up alongside everything else.

How Decora House came to us

Decora House was not originally an online store I founded. It came to us through a somewhat surprising opportunity.

For a long time, I had been thinking that I wanted to run my own online store. I was interested in the idea of work that could be done more flexibly alongside family life, but which would still offer the opportunity to build something of my own and long-term. I wanted to be more present for my children and do work that wasn't completely tied to a specific place or time.

Then, a situation arose where the previous owner of Decora House was moving on to new roles. The opportunity felt right, and eventually, we completed the business acquisition. That’s when our journey with Decora House began.

Decora House has served customers since 2007. That's a long time for an online store, and it has gone through many different phases. Many have known Decora House previously as a store particularly related to parties and decorations. That history is part of Decora House, and there's no need to hide it. The store has been part of many customers' celebrations, important moments, and small life milestones.

However, Decora House is now in a new phase.

Why the direction is changing

Over time, I've noticed that I want to take Decora House in a direction that feels more authentic to me.

I don't want to just sell products that are used for a moment and then forgotten. I want to build a selection that has more permanence, utility, and everyday joy. Products that are beautiful, but not just beautiful. They also need to be practical, high-quality, and something that genuinely has a place in everyday life.

From this idea, Decora House's new direction was born: thoughtful gifts and beautiful quality products for everyday life.

I want Decora House to be a place where you can find a gift for a woman, man, child, or baby, but equally well something for your own home, well-being, everyday life, or a small treat for yourself.

What kind of products do I want to sell?

As a mother and an online store owner, I often look at products from a very practical perspective.

Will this be used?
Will this bring joy for a longer time?
Could this be given as a gift without feeling unnecessary?
Is the product something the recipient would actually want to use?

I like products that combine beautiful aesthetics, good utility, and a sense of quality. Products that make everyday life a little more comfortable, softer, easier, or more beautiful.

Lately, I’ve discovered wonderful products from European manufacturers and brands. What particularly appeals to me about them is the quality, materials, finishing, and often, a clear concept behind the product. A product is not just one item among others; it has a purpose and its own small story.

These are the kinds of products I want to bring more of to Decora House.

Decora House is transforming from a party and mere gift shop into an online store that offers thoughtful gifts and beautiful quality products for everyday life.

In our selection, you will find products for example:

• gifts for various occasions

• home and small everyday moments

• well-being and personal moments

• children and babies

• everyday use

• from European brands and manufacturers

This might include towels and bath textiles, beauty products, slippers, backpacks, jewelry, Moomin products, children's products, and other everyday finds. Not all products need to belong to a strict product category, but they must feel like Decora House.

What "from Decora House" means

For me, it means this:

A product can be beautiful, but it must also be practical.

It can be suitable as a gift, but it doesn't have to be just for a special occasion.

It can feel a little special, but it must still fit into everyday life.

I don't want to build an online store that has everything imaginable just because everything could be sold. I prefer to choose products that have a purpose behind them. Products that fit into the home, into a personal moment, into the daily life of a family with children, for outdoor activities, as a gift, or as a small treat for oneself.

Decora House does not aim for the largest possible selection. The goal is to build a selection that is easy to browse and where you can find something beautiful without endless searching.

A family business amidst everyday life

Because Decora House is our family business, it inevitably also reflects in how the store is built. Developing the online store happens amidst everyday life: between school days, hobbies, family schedules, customer service, product selection, and new ideas.

It’s not always perfect or ready all at once. But perhaps that’s precisely why I want to build Decora House into a store that feels authentic. One that has real people, a real family, and a genuine desire to do things better behind it.

Every order means a lot to us. In a small online store, an order is not just a number on a report. It’s a sign that someone has found something in our selection that suits their home, their everyday life, their child, their friend, or as a gift for an important moment.

Where Decora House is headed

Decora House is now entering a new phase. We want to maintain the ease of finding gifts, but also introduce more quality products suitable for everyday life.

I hope that Decora House will feel like a place where you can find something thoughtful, beautiful, and useful in the future.
